The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program is the most widely used greenhouse gas (GHG) credit program in the world. It directs funding to activities that reduce and remove emissions, improve livelihoods, and protect nature. VCS projects have reduced or removed nearly one billion tons of carbon and other GHG emissions from the atmosphere. The VCS Program is a critical and evolving component in the ongoing effort to protect our shared environment.

By combining scientific strictity and transparency with innovative thinking, the VCS Program has continuously brought new projects, organizations and people to the voluntary carbon market, as well as an increasing number of compliance markets, and has given them the confidence needed for their holdings.

REDD PROJECTS

The acronym REDD emerged in 2007, during the 13th Meeting of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP 13), held in Bali, Indonesia. It was with REDD that for the first time the role of forests was officially recognized as fundamental to efforts to combat the effects of global climate change.

REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) is a series of steps designed to use market and financial incentives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions due to forest degradation and deforestation, as well as conservation, sustainable forest management and increased forest carbon stocks.

REDD+PROJECTS

It is the Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation and also the efforts directed to conservation actions, the sustainable management of forests and activities that promote the increase of carbon stocks of native forests, including the guarantee of best practices with a view to non-deforestation:

  • Decreases deforestation

  • Reduces cutting

  • Conserves what exists (Standing Forest)

  • Ensures sustainable management (rivers, riverbanks, prevents erosion, allows trees to reach their mature age)

  • Extinguishing of fires, etc.

REDD projects have fostered the carbon market in Brazil, placing the country in a privileged position in relation to forest conservation worldwide.
